“For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” - Romans 5:19 (KJV)
When we receive Jesus Christ as our savior, we are justified before God and escape the judgment of eternal separation from God for our sin. That was just the starting point for our new life. By receiving Christ, we become God’s possession, i.e. Jesus purchased us with his blood. Now that we belong to him hi is in the process of making us “righteous” (be made righteous) in our daily walk. This process includes our responsibility to maintain the humble mindset that we had when we first came to Christ. We were powerless to effect change in our own behavior before we came to him and unless we keep our eyes fixed on him we will remain powerless. Keeping our weakness without him at the forefront of our mind, and calling upon him to change in us what is not pleasing to him, we receive his strength and become more like him and he alone gets the glory!
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” - 2 Cor 3:18 (KJV)
“For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end”; - Hebrews 3:14 (KJV)
God will change us and we will understand that the change is from him if we don’t misplace our confidence and go back to self-reliance. If we go back to self-reliance, we will quench the Spirit and become totally frustrated and defeated, kind of like when we first came to Christ.
Let us just keep that first confidence and reject going back to self-reliance.
